|The disposal of plastic garbage should be closely monitored.|
Kobe city, my municipality, has set a 4-way garbage classification: "combustible", "noncombustible", "plastics", and "cans, bottles, and PET bottles". I always follow the rule.
I heard once that the reason of plastics being collected separately was that they burn at a higher temperature than wood and paper garbage do, They can therefore damage the incinerator. I don't know if it's so.
I wonder how plastics are disposed of after being collected. They hardly decompose. So if they are not processed adequately, they last forever in some form or other. Micro plastics are the result of the ones deliberately or inadvertently flown into the ocean. It is now a seriously growing concern because finely fragmented plastic debris can be mistaken as plankton baits and taken in by small fish. Being unable to be digested, micro-plastics accumulate in the stomachs of them and they are, together with plastics inside, eaten by larger fish, then by sea mammals that feed fish, and finally by humans.
For this reason, I think plastics at least need to be recycled adequately.
There is a sole swimmer in the middle of the Pacific Ocean just to draw people's attention to the micro-plastic problem by swimming through Great Pacific Garbage Patch. I posted a supporting comment to his team's blog post. See and study what is going on.
