No.44 I like this joke. 投稿者:今神栗八 投稿日:2019年06月07日 (金) 02時21分 [ 返信] |
Former Prime Minister of Japan, Yoshiro Mori was poor at English.
Former U.S. President Bill Clinton was visiting Japan.
Mori was taught by his staff how to greet President Clinton in English.
"When President Clinton comes, please only say 'How are you?' and 'Me, too.' in English. After that, no more English and just smile, OK?"
"OK." Mori answered.
When President Clinton arrived, Mori was very nervous.
He said to President Clinton, "Who are you?"
Clinton thought it was a joke. So he replied, "I'm Hillary's husband."
Then Mori replied, "Me, too."

Poor Mr.Mori...
By the way, if you ask Japanese people ,"How are you?", do most of them still answer, "I am fine, thank you."?

"I'm OK. Thanks. Yourself?" "Well, I feel a bit under the weather." This are my set phrases.
"I'm fine, thanks." still sounds OK to me, though.

I know nobody that has so square a face as Mori does.
It has nothing to do with Kuriya's story, though.
